At the Table with Safir

Published on: 19th August, 2021

Today we are talking to Safir. She explains to us what it means to her to come from a relatively small island which is divided into 2 islands while living on one big island in Scotland. We try to explore some difficult feelings around being here while missing there, we talk about aunties that may never sit around our dining table and talk about grief that cannot be shared in the traditional way. We learn that there are no wrong or right answers when it comes to navigating here and there, not even when it comes to getting a tan or an ice cream cone.

About the Podcast

Here and There
Here is Here and There is There
In this podcast, we’ll be talking to people willing to share their stories of here and there. We want to go beyond race, accent, and cuisine and have conversations that will allow us to understand the meaning of here and there better. You’ll hear us wonder about what it means and how it feels to be an immigrant, expat, or otherwise. We are curious how we can see each other and be together while sharing the richness of our experiences. We hope you’ll join us and forgive us if our silliness gets in the way.
